Our History
Goodpasture Radio was started back in 2003 as a way of helping recognizing the hard work and dedication of a group of young men and coaches participating on the Goodpasture Football team. Over the years the coverage has grown and now encompasses four different websites, live internet broadcasting, a radio broadcast of each game, a Thursday night coaches show, and post season awards for the team.
In 2oo3 MTP productions decided to venture out from it’s statewide coverage that it had been doing for years. At the time MTP had a statewide radio show covering high school football on the Tennessee Radio network. The show was hosted by Tim Tackett and Murphy Fair and could be heard on the then leader in Nashville sports, WTN radio in the late 1990’s. MTP also had a statewide website called PrepTalkOnline.com. The site was a success with contributions from Murphy and Chris Eakes who is the current host of 104.5 the Zone’s high school show.
In 2003, MTP chose to start focusing on a team. Phil Eakes, the owner of MTP, could think of no better team than Goodpasture. Eakes’s soon Chase was on the 1999 and 2001 state championship teams. Chase, was a Mr. Football finalist, 3 - Tim All State Player, 2 Time State Championship Game MVP, The Tennesseans Two Way Player Of The Year, and set a number of school records while playing for the Cougars. After his graduation the Eakes family continued to follow the Cougars closely and decided what better way to give back than to broadcast the games.
At the time there was no radio station in town with time available for the broadcasts. So the broadcast team did the next best thing. They taped the games live and posted them to their website the next day. Needless to say the games were popular and helped fuel the website to add other things like rosters, stats, articles, photos, and more.
Over the years the broadcast team has both changed and grown. Here is a list of all those that have contributed:
2003 - Tom Jones, Phil Eakes, Buddy Cutcliff, David House
2004 - Tom Jones, Phil Eakes, Buddy Cutcliff, Casey Moreland
2005 - Tom Jones, Garland Mahan, Phil Eakes, Eddie Porter, Shane Stroud
2006 - Garland Mahan, Phil Eakes, Eddie Porter, Shane Stroud, Jeremy Neighbors
2007 - Garland Mahan, Tom Jones, Phil Eakes, Jeremy Neighbors
2008 - Garland Mahan, Tom Jones, Phil Eakes, Jeremy Neighbors, Chase Eakes, Whit Mahan
2009 - Garland Mahan, Tom Jones, Phil Eakes, Jeremy Neighbors, Chase Eakes
Over the years both the broadcast and the website have come quite a ways. The broadcasts are now live on the radio on AM 1360 in Nashville. It’s also live on the internet at our website GoodpastureFootball.com. As of this 2008 we implemented a new system where the games are in the stadium live on 105.5 FM and can be heard anywhere on campus. On Thursday nights we’ve introduces a 30 minute coaches show that is aired live during drive time on AM 1360. The website has also done some amazing things. The site averages over 1 million hits per football season. Also it was redisigned and is considered one of the best high schoool sites in the state with more information than virtually any other site. It even expanded to a historical site at www.cougarchronicles.com .
In 2008 MTP was able, with the help of their sponsors, to present a play of the year award and player of the year award at the post season banquet. With your help we hope to continue to grow our involvement with the program and the school.
